If Cats Ran the Real Estate Business

Humans have to live in buildings.

Cats have to live with humans. At least, if you want cats to stay clean and disease-free.

Let’s take that all out of context. Let’s mash it up and inspect it from an inverse angle, just like when we hung upside down on the jungle gym as children, observing the seemingly upward pull of gravity from a new perspective that seemed at once startling and hysterical.

Let’s say that the cats did the home shopping, the realty work, and the closing paperwork. Let’s imagine that your cat is responsible for weeding out the bad neighborhoods and the pet restrictions and the heretical, zealous HOAs that seem intent to incorporate your soul into their larger hivemind.

What would your cat do first? Where would he or she look to ensure that they’re getting the best deals and weeding out the chaff from the wheat?

If I were your cat, I would probably make sure I’m hiring the right other cats to ensure that I’m taking full advantage of the information and socialization systems available to realty cats.

But what does a cat think about, past that. You can imagine your little kitty flipping through the listings, ticking — again and again — the number of bathrooms and bedrooms, ensuring we always get “pet-friendly” onto the filter results — in this case, the pets being the humans.

I think in a world where cats run the show, they would probably limit the humans to probably 2 per household, but no less than that. The system promotes a redundancy in the case that one human neglects to put food out for their humble little masters.

If you think about it, that would really be a requirement for all cats, so we would have an inverse approach to the filtering options available. Your cat would have to go out of their way to select “pet unfriendly” if they wanted to find someplace free of humans.

There are actually quite a few such places in the world. I know that the Caiman Islands, for example, have several cat houses across the islands, built by faithful humans but created to allow the cats the freedom to live independently of their would-be masters.

So, if you’re operating in the inverse, the pet friendly waterfront condos in Delray Beach Fl would be a haven where cats could keep their humans close, but have ready access to the crabs under the sand and the fish that wander too far up the surf and get stranded on the beach.

This would be ideal, where pet unfriendly units are not available. If you have to live with them, you may as well ensure that they’re able to self-entertain and separate themselves from your cat living space.

In a lot of ways, the pet factor becomes of paramount importance in cat real estate. It’s less necessary to figure the number of bathrooms (since litter boxes can go anywhere) and bedrooms (since all bedrooms that are occupied offer plenty of pillow space for the cat to overtake it’s human’s position).

Even requirements like central air or sewer connections or double-thick glass windows are less relevant.

Truly, the only requirement worthy of consideration is the accessibility of pet humans. If the kitty HOA wants to ensure that you have a few extra sprigs of catnip in every front garden, so be it.
